Back for their second album on Pacific Plaza Records, the mysterious Dreampunk producer Goamae brings forth a successor to their 2019 album “Planet Mansion”. This seven track collection, entitled "Shadow Domain", showcases Goamae at their strongest- crafting cinematic aural vignettes with a mixture of samples, synths, spacious drums, and new age melodies. Taking cues from Vaporwave as well as it’s ambient sibling Dreampunk, these songs emerge from the shadows with glorious overtures of wordless vocals and evocative soundscapes.

Despite it’s caliginous sounding name, "Shadow Domain" is an album slips into the night and emerges into the light. Recontextualizing voices and wordless melodies, Goamae’s attention to detail and sonic space transports the listener into different realms. The album’s mid section plunges the listener deeper into the night, before finally emerging on the album’s final tracks to achieve “mastery of time and space” like the glorious new-age closer “永遠の瞬間”. The slowed breakbeats and blissful melodies on the track are reminiscent of the sounds on the opener (Port Romance), but now they are colored with a nostalgic tint found on classic Dreampunk albums like “Birth of a New Day” by 2814.

Goamae’s vignettes are not merely slowed-and-reverb tracks from yesteryear, but elliptical transformations and combinations of melodies that conjure utopian visions and nostalgic emotions. Whether it’s the smoldering remains of “Last Summer’s Flame” or the rapturous landscape of the “Magic Field”, their new album brings together a unique palette of sounds. From aqueous bass to repitched pan flute, glossy synths to dusty drum machine breaks, Shadow Domain takes the tools and aesthetics of Vaporwave and Dreampunk in a “direction of energy".
